7:30 PM - 8:30 PMTu Bishvat -- or the 15th of the Hebrew month Shvat -- is called the New Year for trees. Join us Wednesday, January 27 at 7:30pm by clicking here as we welcome Erica Schultz, in collaboration with Barbara Model, for a Tu Bishvat celebration to eat fruit, drink wine, and experience the renewal of life in the year!
To fully enjoy our Seder, gather fruits and other items to participate. There will be four categories of tree fruits, plus wine or grape juice. Try to have at least one from each of the categories using our list as a guide.
Tree Fruits with an inedible exterior and an edible interior
Oranges or any citrus fruit
Bananas
Nuts in shells—almond, walnuts, pistachios, etc.
Coconut
Tree Fruits with an inedible center and an edible exterior
Dates
Olives (with pits!)
Any pit fruit: peaches, plums, apricots, cherries
Mango
Tree Fruits that are edible all the way through
Grapes (seedless) or raisins
Figs: fresh or dried
Star fruit: fresh or dried
Apples and pears (they have a core, but no pit)
Berries
Kiwi
Tree produce that you enjoy for its aroma
Some items are evocative or the category
Etrog—difficult to get, but a good example
Quince (needs additional preparation to eat)
Cinnamon Stick—tree bark used for spice
Maple syrup—tree sap
Honey
Wine or Grape juice -- both red and white, some of each
