Local Resources

  • ShalomBoston: "Everything For and About the Jewish Community in Greater Boston and Beyond"
  • The Butcherie: Brookline's #1 kosher grocery store. Note that they have a rebate program by which your purchases can benefit TBS: when you shop at the Butcherie, simply ask the cashier to "stamp the receipt", and send your stamped receipt(s) to the TBS office. Painless fundraising -- everybody wins!
  • Mayyim Chayyim: The revolutionary mikvah facility that takes hidur mitzvah (beautification of a commandment) to new heights. T-accessible at the Green Line "D" Woodland T Stop.
  • The long-awaited North Charles Community Eruv celebrated its first official "up" status in the fall of 2002. After some downtime this winter, it is now back in service. Be sure to check their web page (or call 857-389-ERUV) before each Shabbat for status updates, as well as the official eruv boundaries. For continued financial support of the eruv, they welcome online donations at Network for Good, where you can also read more about the project.

Learning Opportunities

  • Charles River Beit Midrash "bridges communities from Brookline, Cambridge and beyond for serious text study dedicated to social justice issues in an open, non-denominational setting. The Beit Midrash is open to individuals of all backgrounds and knowledge levels. We meet every week for both guided & independent learning of Jewish texts. Sessions are hosted by and alternate every month between Cambridge at Eitz Chayim & Brookline at Kehillath Israel."
  • Greater Boston Open Beit Midrash (House of Study): Every Tuesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Harvard Hillel. The GBOBM provides a great opportunity for you to make Jewish learning a part of your regular schedule. And this is one learning opportunity that is truly OPEN: to all members of the community, including the general public (it's tuition-free!) * to learners of all experience levels and all kinds of Jewish background (including none at all!) * to regular and drop-in participants. Each session features a mini-lecture on the weekly Torah portion, followed by open learning in the Beit Midrash on a topic of your choice. There will be learning facilitators present to assist people in finding learning partners and choosing material to study; in addition, source sheets will be available for folks interested in guided learning. Refreshments provided! Questions? For more information on the Greater Boston Open Beit Midrash, please e-mail michael@hillel.harvard.edu.
  • Experienced Hebrew teacher Natasha Shabat offers numerous small-group classes, in Biblical or modern Hebrew, for adult learners. For more information or to register, contact Natasha (781-643-1346; nshabat@post.harvard.edu).

Singles Resources

The Tremont St. 20s&30s are fundamentally not a "singles" group. Although we occasionally have singles mixers (and people have certainly met and paired off through our other events!), our emphasis is on low-key socializing and community-building. So... what's a single Jew to do??
  • JDate: Online catalog shopping for Jewish singles? Yes, but...! When you're looking for your bashert(e), it can't hurt to use all the tools at your disposal. And I personally know multiple couples who have met and married thanks to JDate... even former Rockapella frontman Sean Altman!
  • Frumster
  • Jewish Friend Finder
  • JLove
  • Your Ideal Date (YID.com) is a Jewish singles website with thousands of singles to meet. All members are first screened by staff to make a high quality database. Photo album search, live chat, and registration is free.
  • SawYouAtSinai.com combines modern technology with traditional matchmaking intervention (by actual humans). Demographic is Conservative through Modern Orthodox and Yeshivish.
  • The J Connection: a for-profit venture "offering high-energy activities and large interactive social events for Jewish professionals in their 20s and 30s" in Boston.
  • Big Beautiful Jewish Women and Handsome Jewish Men: A YahooGroup for plus size single Jewish men and women looking for their beshert. Members are single, Jewish, and either plus size themselves or interested in meeting someone who is. More information
